A business workshop usually starts out very professional. People come in with laptops, coffee and the idea that it's going to be a neat, educational activity. About an hour later, someone is fanatically shaking cocktails as if he has been running his own beach bar for years, while colleagues are completely doubled over with laughter. That's exactly why business workshops work so well.
Because honestly: you only really get to know colleagues outside the workplace. Not during an online meeting where everyone says "can you see my screen?", but during a workshop where people relax, laugh and spontaneously show completely different sides of themselves.
Business workshops are therefore much more than just an activity in between. It's about connection, atmosphere and experiencing something together that will be talked about in the office for months to come. Often including embarrassing group photos that suddenly turn up everywhere in internal chats. Business workshops are enormously popular throughout the Netherlands. From creative workshops in historic city centers to modern activities at industrial hotspots and from cooking workshops to complete team building programs. Not only because cocktails are delicious, but mainly because there always seem to be colleagues who completely overestimate their bartending skills. Shakers fly enthusiastically through the air, recipes are completely ignored and somewhere a drink is guaranteed to be created that no one knows exactly what's in it. Cooking workshops are also popular for business groups. Cooking together takes people out of their business roles surprisingly quickly. The manager suddenly turns out not to be a stress-resistant chef at all, the quiet colleague unexpectedly takes charge and somewhere discussion always arises about spices, timing or who was responsible for something that is now suspiciously smoky.
Creative workshops also work perfectly for team building. Painting, graffiti, photography or other creative assignments make colleagues work together without it feeling forced. And honestly, the worse the end result, the harder the laughter usually gets. What makes business workshops extra fun is that the best moments often arise spontaneously. Not during the official program, but right in between. During a drink on the terrace, a hilarious failed assignment or that moment when someone becomes far too seriously fanatical during a group challenge.
Locations also make a big difference. The Netherlands is full of cozy cities and original places where business workshops automatically get more atmosphere. Think canals in Utrecht, creative hotspots in Eindhoven or historic city centers like Leiden and Zwolle.
And let's face it: no team gets worse from an afternoon of laughing, eating and relaxing together. In fact, some colleagues finally talk to each other after a workshop without a deadline or Excel file involved.
