A workshop in Eindhoven usually starts out very modern and ambitious. People suddenly talk about "experience," "creative energy" and "thinking out of the box," as if they walked straight out of a brainstorming session at a hip advertising agency. Two hours later, the same group is laughing loudly with a cocktail in hand while someone tries to brush away paint on his pants. Welcome to Eindhoven.
You see, this city is much more than technology and design alone. Eindhoven is creative, vibrant and surprisingly cozy. It's one of those places where industrial buildings have been turned into hip hotspots and everywhere you feel like someone once thought, "You know what? We'll just make something fun out of this." And honestly? That works pretty well for workshops and group outings.
Cocktail workshops fit Eindhoven perfectly. Not only because the city is hip enough to make everyone feel like an influencer for a while, but especially because there is always someone in the group who becomes completely convinced of his hidden bartending talent after two drinks. Within no time, shakers fly through the air, entire recipes are ignored and at least one cocktail is created that looks like it lights up in the dark.
Creative workshops also do remarkably well here. Painting, graffiti, cooking, design workshops or something where glue guns come dangerously close to alcohol: in Eindhoven everything feels just a little bit more experimental. People who normally say "I'm not creative at all" suddenly turn into fanatical artists who are far too serious about color combinations.
And then, of course, you have the hilarious group dynamics that are standard during workshops. One person acts like he is auditioning for Heel Holland Bakt, someone else gets completely distracted by snacks, and there is always that one friend who for no reason thinks he can present better than the workshop facilitator himself.
What makes Eindhoven extra fun are the places where you automatically linger afterwards. The Markt and the Wilhelminaplein are full of cozy terraces where a "short drink" usually ends in a complete evening of which no one remembers exactly what time it started.
The Down Town Gourmet Market also remains dangerously cozy. Because let's face it: a workshop automatically gets better once everyone gets to let loose afterwards on burgers, sushi, nachos or desserts that officially several people should be eating.
For groups who want to relax in between workshops, the City Walking Park is ideal. Large, green and perfect for getting some fresh air after someone decided during the workshop that "extra strong cocktails" were a good idea. Although quiet walking usually still turns into loud laughter once old stories resurface. And then you have the creative atmosphere of places like the Blob, the light art throughout the city and all the hidden corners where Eindhoven turns out to be surprisingly atmospheric. People who thought beforehand that Eindhoven consisted only of technology and soccer often look around here as if they accidentally ended up in a mini-version of Berlin.
What makes workshops in Eindhoven especially fun is that the city itself becomes part of the experience. Nowhere does it feel standard or boring. Everything has something creative, something unique and especially something cozy. As a result, a simple workshop here effortlessly turns into a complete day full of food, drinks, laughter and spontaneous plans that were never actually in the original program.
