Conveniently located on an important shipping route, it makes sense that Gouda used to be the heart of shipping. In addition to shipping, Gouda also produced cloth and beer. From the 16th century, Gouda also became increasingly famous for the production of cheese. But, as in Delft, the Eighty Years' War also left its mark in Gouda. Trade and industry fell silent and many breweries disappeared. However, with the increase in the production of rope, yarn, pipes and pottery, the city's economy flourished again between 1600 and 1700. Unfortunately not for long: in the early 18th century there was another economic decline, this time of longer duration. From 1850 on, fortunately, the economy flourished again, thanks in part to candle and yarn products. Nowadays, several companies can be found in Gouda, including for chemistry as business. Most companies are located in the west and south of the city, or on the waterfront. And of course, the most famous product available in Gouda today is Gouda cheese! It has been made in Gouda since the Middle Ages.

From the Market Square, you can easily walk through the charming streets towards St. John's Church. This church is impressive, even if you only admire the exterior. What makes Gouda extra nice are the canals and small bridges that run throughout the city. A walk along the water, for example towards the Houtmansplantsoen, immediately creates a relaxed atmosphere. Here you can take a break, but also easily do a scavenger hunt or team assignment. Because yes, even in a quiet city, the competition can suddenly become fierce.
For those who want a little more greenery, the park is a nice change. Away from the hustle and bustle, but still in the middle of the city. Places like this are ideal for loosening up the program and giving room for spontaneous moments-and often those are just the most fun.
What makes a company outing in Gouda so strong is its simplicity. Everything is close together, the atmosphere is relaxed and you don't need a complicated plan to make something fun out of it. A walk, a few tasks and a little creativity are often enough.
